Specification of the Current Priorities of Slovakia’s Visegrad Group (V4) Presidency Programme as Presented by Prime Minister Iveta Radičová in her Address at the Summit of V4 Prime Ministers held in Budapest, 20 July 2010

Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radičová emphasised that the V4 Summit in Budapest was held at a time when a number of problems and related solutions are forcing us to act in unison. We need to respond to the challenges of today, such as the instability of the financial markets, alleviate the impacts of the global economic crisis on the everyday lives of the people, and urgently address the serious consequences of the recent floods. One of the strategic tasks of the V4 is to jointly strengthen the region of Central Europe and reinforce our cohesion and solidarity within the EU. In this connection, Radičová quoted Polish journalist and writer Adam Michnik’s words from 20 years ago, who insisted on the functioning and continuation of Visegrad cooperation because, when together, its members will be stronger, more resilient and effective.
