The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic forms a part of the executive power in the Slovak Republic. 
It is responsible for the development of relations with other states and co-operation with multi-national and international organisations, in particular in the area of foreign and security policy, bilateral relations, economic co-operation, culture, science, technology, and education.

Today (11 April 2024), the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, held talks with the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba during a joint meeting of the Slovak and Ukrainian governments in Michalovce, Slovakia. The counterparts discussed concrete support provided by Slovakia, especially in the field of humanitarian aid, infrastructure and energy as well as in the area of demining the Ukrainian territory.

The Slovak Republic unequivocally rejects the new European migration and asylum policy, the so-called Migration Pact, which includes the mandatory redistribution of irregular refugees. The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, made this statement in the context of the draft legislative framework, approved by European MPs despite not having full support on Wednesday 10 April 2024.

Today 10 April 2024), the representatives of the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Hungary signed the minutes of the 15th session of the intergovernmental Mixed Slovak-Hungarian Commission for Minority Affairs in Budapest. The two sides agreed on 54 measures and recommendations in the fields of culture, education, economy and infrastructure aimed at improving the lives of Slovaks in Hungary and Hungarians living in Slovakia.

The Slovak Republic will help provide approximately 60 tonnes of skimmed milk powder for children during the difficult humanitarian situation in Cuba. Today (10 April 2024), the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba, Rafael Paulin Pino Bécquer, informing him that Slovakia will send a financial contribution of 200 thousand euros to the World Food Programme of the United Nations for the purchase of powdered milk on Monday.

Today (9 April 2024), the Executive Secretary of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), Robert Floyd, arrived in Slovakia. At the beginning of his official visit, he held talks with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, in the presence of the Chairwoman of the Slovak Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Marta Žiaková. The Executive Secretary made a point of emphasizing the intensive cooperation with the Slovak Republic, which so far, out of all the countries of the world, has hosted the largest number of international exercises and courses organised by the CTBTO.

On 3 and 4 April 2024, at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Member States discussed preparations for the Alliance's July Summit in Washington, strengthening the collective defence, assistance to Ukraine and deepening cooperation with partners from the Indo-Pacific region. The Slovak delegation was led by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Juraj Blanár.

Today (3 April 2024), the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, held talks with the British Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, on the first day of the meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member states in Brussels. The partners discussed preparations for the Washington NATO summit with regards to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and also raised the issue of strengthening mutual cooperation in the economic field.

At Matej Bel University (UMB) in Banská Bystrica Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár honored the 340th anniversary of the birth of Matej Bel, the Slovak polymath, one of the most well-known European scientists of his era as well as an academic diplomat. On this occasion Slovakia’s chief diplomat visited the UMB University Library, where, together with the University rector Vladimír Hiadlovský, he launched a new publication on Matej Bel´s life and work.

In Ljubljana a meeting of foreign affairs ministers of the informal C5 Group (C5) initiative was held today (26 March 2024). The invitation by Slovenia's chief diplomat Tanja Fajon was also accepted by Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár who attended the negotiations, along with his counterparts from the Czech Republic (Minister Jan Lipavský), Hungary (Minister Péter Szijjártó) and Austria (Minister Alexander Schallenberg) as well as Slovenia (Minister Tanja Fajon).

These efforts have intensified since the start of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Ministry collects the most common false claims and confronts them with facts.
