State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lukáš Parízek, today (25 January 2018), received István Simicskó, Minister of Defence of Hungary, who is currently on a working visit to the Slovak Republic.

During the meeting they discussed the excellent mutual cooperation between Slovakia and Hungary with the emphasis on security and defence. The long-term joint deployment of Slovak and Hungarian soldiers within the UNFICYP mission in Cyprus has served as a successful example.
They agreed that both countries share a similar view of the security challenges, which is also shown in similar positions in NATO and the EU.  Slovakia and Hungary also deploy members of their armed forces to the Baltic States within NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence and would also like to participate in the EU´s Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO).
“The intense cooperation between Slovakia and Hungary also in security and defense, within the V4, in NATO and the EU attests to the fact that our mutual relations are at a very good level," said State Secretary Parízek.

As the Ministry´s Special Representative for Slovakia´s Chairmanship of the OSCE, Parízek introduced the discussion topics to be tackled within the Forum for Security Co-operation, which in the first quarter of this year is presided over by the Slovak Republic, also highlighting the potential of the cooperation among the V4 countries.
