State Secretary Parízek at Security Forum 2018 conference discusses Slovakia´s role in global security
State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Lukáš Parízek, today (7 February 2018) opened the Security Forum 2018 international scientific conference in Banská Bystrica. He emphasized the importance of Slovakia´s Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and outlined the first steps of its current presidency at the Forum for Security Co-operation and the Mediterranean Contact Group.
The conference was organized by the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica and is attended by prominent representatives of governmental, scientific and academic institutions from Slovakia and abroad to discuss key aspects of the current security environment and trends in its development.
The discussion panels cover a wide range of topics – from theoretical and methodological aspects of security analysis, to assessment of the strategic management of cyber security, through to tasks concerning the direction of trans-Atlantic security. The participants agreed that although the security environment in Europe is faced with many new challenges, European countries still have instruments to identify and eliminate the threats.
In his address Parízek drew attention to the opportunity offered by Slovakia chairing the OSCE: “Our country has a unique chance to contribute to stabilizing relations and reinforcing peace and stability as well as to preventing conflicts in Europe. The security of our citizens is closely related to the security of the space we share. Therefore, Slovakia must also contribute to security and not to only benefit from it.”
