State Secretary Parízek attends the official unveiling of Bjørnstjern Bjørnson´s memorial in Košice
State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Lukáš Parízek, today (6 February) together with Renáta Lenártová, Vice Mayor of the city of Košice, Inga Magistad, Ambassador of Norway, and Edvard Hoem, a Norwegian author, gave addresses at the official unveiling of a memorial to Bjørnstjern Bjørnson, the Norwegian writer, in Košice. In his address, State Secretary Parízek appreciated Bjørnson´s contribution to the history of the Slovak nation in the time when Slovaks had to fight for their place in Europe.
“This history brings important lessons for the future and that´s why we will remember further the resolve, the ardor and the zeal, with which Bjørnstjern Bjørnson fought for our, the Slovaks´, rights as well," stressed Parízek.
Neither did Parízek forget the importance of Bjørnson´s work for mutual Slovak-Norwegian relations and cooperation, which have been strengthened thanks to persons such as Bjørnson. This year Slovakia and Norway are commemorating 25 years since establishing diplomatic relations.
