Statement of the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs regarding the rights of Slovak citizens after Brexit

The withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (“the United Kingdom” or “the UK”) from the European Union following the British Government's notification should take place on 29 March 2019. At this point, it is unclear whether it is going to happen in orderly manner through the Withdrawal Agreement or without an agreement (so-called hard brexit). In the case of the orderly withdrawal, the existing rights of the EU citizens living in the UK and British citizens living in the EU will remain.

Minister Lajčák Receives Rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations Anatoly Torkunov

Today (19 January 2019), Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, met with Anatoly Torkunov, Rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO), who is visiting the Slovak Republic. Both diplomats acknowledged the positive evolution of relations between the Slovak Republic and the Russian Federation (RF) in the area of education and student mobility, including the MGIMO collaboration with selected Slovak universities. Torkunov emphasized with pleasure that his experience with the Slovak students has been positive, saying that they excel in their studies and achieve positive results. In this regard he recalled that the Slovaks who have graduated from the MGIMO hold the largest number of high-level positions in international organisations amongst all graduates of the school. He also informed the minister about the Institute’s activities and plans for development, with an emphasis on the current needs of the international political scene. He also confirmed the Institute’s interest in continuing with further cooperation in the area of education for specialists in international relations.

During the second working day of his visit to Moldova (19 January 2019), Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajčák, in his function of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, met with Mátyás Eörsi, Head of the ODIHR/OSCE International Observation Mission for Parliamentary Elections in Moldova.

Minister zahraničných vecí a európskych záležitostí Slovenskej republiky Miroslav Lajčák dnes (18. januára 2019) začal druhú zahraničnú pracovnú cestu vo funkcii úradujúceho predsedu Organizácie pre bezpečnosť a spoluprácu v Európe (OBSE), ktorej Slovensko predsedá po celý rok 2019. Prvý pracovný deň rokoval v Kišiňove so svojím rezortným partnerom ministrom Tudorom Ulianovským a s predsedom vlády Pavlom Filipom. Prijal ho tiež prezident Igor Dodon.

Minister Lajčák Talks with His Counterpart from Liechtenstein and Gives Address at Conference on SDGs

Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, talked with his counterpart, Aurelia Frick, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Justice and Culture of the Principality of Liechtenstein, in Vaduz today (17 January 2019). The meeting is held in the year in which the Principality celebrates the 300th anniversary of its creation. In addition, we also commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Slovakia and Liechtenstein. The talks were dominated by the topic of bilateral cooperation, current issues of the European agenda and international cooperation.
