Today (December 6, 2019), the Permanent Representative of Slovakia to the United Nations in Geneva, Juraj Podhorský, was elected Vice-President of the UN Human Rights Council. For the third year in a row now, as part of our membership in the Council, the Slovak Republic will be part of the top leadership of a key body among human rights institutions. Together with four other regional UN groups, Slovakia will be part of a dialogue about themes related to human rights issues, will deal with cases where the defenders of human rights are threatened or deterred, and will forward recommendations to the General Assembly of the United Nations in order to further enhance the development of international law in the area of human rights.
