The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic forms a part of the executive power in the Slovak Republic. 
It is responsible for the development of relations with other states and co-operation with multi-national and international organisations, in particular in the area of foreign and security policy, bilateral relations, economic co-operation, culture, science, technology, and education.

The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, received the heads of four international organisations operating in Slovakia under the United Nations (UN) on 13 March 2024. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The decision to remove Slovak citizen Jozef Hambálek from the European Union's sanctions list enters into force as of Thursday, 14 March 2024. All EU Member States have supported the activities of Slovak diplomacy, which has been working hard to have the Slovak citizen removed from the sanctions list since the new Slovak government took office under the leadership of Prime Minister Robert Fico and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár.

On the occasion of International Women's Day (8 March 2024), the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic emphasised the importance and irreplaceable role of women in Slovak diplomacy. The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, believes it is important to create fair and equal conditions, room for self-realisation and opportunities for women to successfully represent the Slovak Republic at home and abroad.

Based on current information, the Dutch side, which previously did not have sufficient information about the planned event – where the internal political situation in Slovakia was to be discussed at the Dutch Embassy in Prague with the participation of ambassadors of EU member states but without the Slovak ambassador to the Czech Republic being invited – decided to cancel the event on its embassy premises in the Czech Republic.

At their meeting on Wednesday (6 March 2024), the Government of the Slovak Republic approved the document called “Focus of Slovak Bilateral Development Cooperation for 2024”. This year's activities of Slovak development cooperation will focus on humanitarian and development projects, education, sending volunteers and support through subsidy grants. The Government has allocated EUR 21.7 million for implementation of the approved concept.

Today (6 March 2024), the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic summoned the Dutch ambassador to Slovakia, Gabriella Sancisi, to convey to her its reservations about an event to be held at the Dutch embassy in the Czech Republic with the aim of assessing the political situation in Slovakia.

The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Slovak Republic and the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Bratislava organised a gala concert this evening (4 March 2024) in the Mirror Hall of the Primate's Palace in Bratislava, as part of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Slovakia's accession to the European Union. The event, which featured "Modern Opera Voices of Bulgaria" and highlighted the mutual Slovak-Bulgarian relations within the framework of the two countries' presence in the European Union, was opened by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, together with the Bulgarian Ambassador to Slovakia, Vassil Petkov.

On 1-2 March 2024, Juraj Blanár, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, participated in the third Diplomatic Forum in Antalya, Turkey, organised under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. More than 20 heads of state and government, over 60 foreign ministers and two dozen representatives of international organisations attended the platform aimed at finding peaceful solutions. During the event, the head of Slovak diplomacy, Juraj Blanár, held a number of important bilateral meetings with foreign partners with whom he discussed mutual relations, new opportunities for development and the current foreign policy situation.

As part of the working visit by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic to India, the Representation Office of the Slovak Republic in New Delhi organized the Slovak- Indian forum entitled the Slovak Innovation and Technology Day on Thursday, 22 February 2024. The event was attended by 22 businessmen and representatives from Slovak institutions and more than a hundred Indian partners.

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár, together with State Secretary Rastislav Chovanec and Slovak Ambassador to India Róbert Maxián, was received by Giridhar Aramane, State Secretary of the Defense Ministry of India in New Delhi today (22 February 2024). Then the representatives of the Slovak Republic also held talks with Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
